Aaliyah Had A Short Life, But It Was Punctuated With Success At Frequent Intervals

Aaliyah Dana Haughton was born in New York on January 16, 1979.  Aaliyah began her journey into stardom at an early age of 14 when her first album,  Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number, appeared in 1994. But she made her debut performance in Star Search, a TV show, when she was just 10 years old. She was finally introduced to R. Kelly, when she was about 12 years old. Kelly went on to be her mentor, as well as the producer of her first album. Sales records of the album broke all previous records and shot Aaliyah to stardom.

Aaliyah's second album, One in a Million, released in 1996, created some more records with a sale of 3.7 million copies in the US alone. Aaliyah continued her career with her debut appearance in a movie, Romeo Must Die, in 2000. The movie featured the song, Try Again. Aaliyah was nominated for Best Female R&B Vocalist at the Grammy Awards.

Aaliyah's use of dark glasses during the shooting of her first few albums. Speculations were rife of a defective eye that was concealed behind the glasses, but she quelled all rumors by donning a new look where she doesn't use glasses in her later albums.

Aaliyah found herself killed in an airplane crash in August 2001when she was headed back home following the shooting of 'Rock the Boat'. The pilot was found to be  flying under the influence of drugs. She was just 22 years old at the time of her death. Aaliyah's music continues to create sensations throughout the world of music. The celebrity released an album, Aaliyah, a month before her death in July 2001, although the recording was over in March 2001.
